Germany, 2007, 91 min Director Alejandro Cardenas-A's first film
Alex (25) has just arrived in Buenos Aires. He is going to see his father, who is dying. There he meets his family and old friends of his father, who remind him of his childhood. His exceptional childhood in Berlin is told in flashbacks: Alex and his family had to flee Argentina in the early eighties from the military junta. They have finally arrived in Berlin, finding a new home in a factory level full of weird people. The factory level is the only playground for Alex, where his childhood memories find their origin. After arriving in Berlin, Alex has to find his place in this new country. The people look like their dogs and seem to speak incomprehensible as well. Over the time, Alex grows accustomed to this alien world. Besides he discovers that he has a gift. He can move things with the power of his thoughts. In the beginning, his parents, Lizzie and Carlos, have big problems to settle in the foreign country as well. But soon, Lizzie starts to shoot documentaries. In contrast to Carlos, her yearning for Argentina is fading. Carlos is a painter. He is entirely unable to cope with Berlin. He feels misunderstood and unaccepted by the Germans. The yearning for his home town Buenos Aires makes him sitting for hours in front of his paintings, listening to Tango and losing himself in his memories. Slowly, the relationship between Lizzie and Carlos is breaking down. Alex tries to prevent his parent’s relationship from falling in pieces with the full power of his gift.
