David Friesen's solo bass performances are renowned for being able to keep an audience riveted with his bass alone, a skill shared by only two to three bassists worldwide. Friesen's music, which is imbued with certain ingredients of jazz, is also characterized by folk-flavored spices and classical and Jewish veins with substantial spontaneity, lyrical strength, warmth and creative discoveries in the musical wilderness. He has performed and/or recorded with many legends such as Stan Getz, Joe Henderson, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, and many others. In this Shanghai performance he's joined on stage by the special guest Lawrence Ku, China's leading jazz guitarist.
