City Weekend is giving a few of our lucky readers a pair of tickets each to see Hairspray. Nothing came easy to Tracey so we can't make it too easy for you, so...

My best friend absolutely loves musicals. He is always trying to make me watch Rent or Sound of Music on DVD and well I always refuse unless he puts on a dress and some liptstick. If I won these tickets I would take my very special friend and not even make him wear lipstick...well maybe just a little hehe.

Ever since I was younger I have loved musicals. Given that filipinos love kareoke, I am a big fan of singing, and also dancing. I love watching and being in musicals. I have been in musicals in school such as Once on This Island, Little Shop of Horrors, and some others. When I first watched Hairspray I fell in love. Hairspray has so many "feel-good" songs that it's almost impossible to end the musical without singing or dancing, or at least without a smile. Watching Hairspray on stage would be such a wonderful experience, and a live performance definitely stumps the movie. What I look forward to seeing the most is seeing Brook Pulver, see if she can do as good of a job portraying Tracy Turnblad as Nikki Blonsky did, if not, even better.

Since I have come to Shanghai, I always have been wanted to explore to culture and the architecture. Shanghai Grand Theater is one of them that I have a desire to visit, but not yet have the opportunity. I figured it might be a good idea to enjoy the theater and a great performance that I can understand and enjoy (since my Chinese is not strong enough for Chinese musical yet.) I'm also looking forward to Chinese people react to the story and the wonderful production of Hairspray since it's from the different culture that these people are accustomed to.

I've never seen musical before. But after seeing the movie high school musical, I'm thinking musical may be interesting and I can get some message from it. So I just want to see a real musical maybe after seeing that I will love it.

The Hairspray musical has always been reviewed as one of the best and must see musicals and so, this is one reason I want to see it. The theme targets females and as an expat in Shanghai, this musical is a great idea for a enjoyful night out. I also look forward to the seeing the cast, dance, theater, and props. This will give me something to chat about with my friends and coworkers.

I am counting down the days for this fantastic Broadway Musical's grand landing on the Shanghai Theatre. And I really can't wait to discover with my own eyes and ears the secrets that won this musical eight Tony Awards. If I were so lucky to get the tickets to see Hairspray, I would look forward to enjoying thoroughly all those 1960s-style dance music and "downtown" rhythm and blues. And of course, the most important part of seeing the musical is to get into plump tracey's happy soul and sing together with her --"Oh,Oh,Oh Woke up today feeling the way I always do...."---
BTW, I have been always longing to see the Broadway Musical. I feel so close to my dream now:) As Tracey sings, "Every days like an open door"--so let's see what's behind the door :) Hopefully, I willl be the lucky one - Thanx

I am from New York City, but I have never had the opportunity to watch Hairspray on Broadway. I think it is a wonderfully creative, dazzlingly inspiring storyline and I would love to watch Tracy jiving about in all her glory on stage. She shows that self-motivation and self-confidence can surmount the seemingly insurmountable. Thank you.

I have been dying to see musical since I was unable to get the tickets when I was at Broadway, New York in 2005. I saw the movie as a consolation but nothing beats seeing the incredibly entertaining & playful musical live here in Shanghai with the cheesy 60s songs like "Good Morning Baltimore" to the show's finale, "You Can't Stop the Beat" and the infectious dancing. Of course, one of my highlights would be to see who makes the cast here for Tracy, Edna Turnblad, Motormouth Maybelle & Velma Von Tussle. This is probably the most fun loving broadway musical comedy in many many years and I can't wait to see the colourful sets, 60s costumes and the the gloriously over the top wigs !!
