Organized by Downstream Garage, the Second Mecooon Film Festival focuses on discovering the unknown by showcasing alternative and epic independent film projects. This time, they’ve collected 135 films from 104 young artists from around the world. From within these ranks, 23 have been selected to compete. Film screenings will be held from July 4-6 and the awards will be presented on July 11. Check website for more information.

As a previous film reviewer & critic of one of the major SH English-language enter-tainment magazines, I still watch an awful lot of films; I am also moving into other film-related areas.
I would love to attend this gig. I have checked out the website of the festival and mecoon.org, AND DESPITE THE FESTIVAL'S OFFERINGS COMING FROM AROUND THE WORLD, THE PROGRAM GUIDE IS IN CHINESE!!!
There are reportedly 500K foreigners living in SH; of these, perhaps 1/3 or 150K are native English speakers, and of the purported total, I would estimate that 2/3 have English as a second language, of which they are quite competent.
I can only guess that the Mecoon organisation people presume that they all read and speak chinese? And that they wish to see films with Chinese subtitles? Let alone wish to read a program guide which is all Chinese!
Well, I have some news for you. I AM NOT COMING. AND I WILL RECOMMEND TO ALL MY OTHER FILM COLLEAGUES NOT TO ATTEND.
MECOON is financed by some French organisations, containing people who seem to have forgotten that truly international films events have English as part of the program guide and film subtitles.
Or is this something intentional? An 'exchange' between French and Chinese artists, but at the planned exclusion of the one vital component- THE (FOREIGN) AUDIENCE.
You people royally screwed up big time. Next time it happens, I will personally be on the phone abusing organisers and sponsors alike!!
