City Weekend Says

Emerging artist Ying Yefu's silkscreen prints explore his childhood experiences. His interpretations of discipline, innocence and maternal bond surface in images such as a mother's braids as knotted ropes representing the bonds of love and acupuncture needles corresponding to discomfort.

ART LABOR gallery is pleased to have a showing of emerging artist Ying Yefu’s graphic silk-screen prints. These calm but unsettling works explore ties to his childhood, combining the pressures of discipline children face, with the fondness of maternal bond, explaining the emotions that restrain one’s approach to maturity. Avoiding the obvious politics, the macro-sociological perspective and other more common themes of the local contemporary approach, he examines childhood and the restraints placed upon children from his own personal experience. Mother’s braids become tightly knotted ropes, bonds of love, while gua sha spoons raise bruises and splints straighten bad posture, and acupuncture needles deal with the associated discomfort.

OPENING PARTY with the artist SATURDAY June 21, 5 - 9pm ART LABOR Gallery 10 - 36 Yongjia lu (near Maoming lu) ALL WELCOME
