FREE the WAX presents: DAEDELUS LIVE (Ninja Tune) at The Shelter
Los Angeles-native Alfred Darlington has been pushing the realms of electronic music since the turn of the century under his Daedelus moniker with a body of work that is as brilliant as it is difficult to define.
With his Monome, a retro-looking sample sequencing gadget, he has worked with the cultish likes of MF Doom, Prefuse 73 and Busdriver pushing listeners' sensibilites to a new high. Catch this Victorian dandy live in support of his new album 'Love To Make Music To' in an ecstatic journey that will bring you from hip-hop tempos and electro twists to universal grooves and beyond. Dance-floor friendly sounds from one of today's most innovative musical creatives.
"Brilliant fusion of Aphex Twin and Aaliyah. Like Beck at his very best, Daedelus demonstrates that experimentalism and emotional immediacy are not contradicting forces and neither are intellect and sheer funkiness." Word
Entrance: 50 RMB

Los Angeles native Alfred Darlington, aka Daedelus, has been pushing the realms of electronic music since the turn of the millenium. Armed with his monome (a retro-looking, sample sequencing gadget), he's worked with cult-ish musical figures like MF Doom, Prefuse 73 and Busdriver, pushing listeners' sensibilities to new highs by blending hip-hop beats, romantic riffs and techno twists. Catch this Victorian dandy live, supporting his new album "Love To Make Music To." RMB50

In Your Mix: What you'd create if you were Daedelus; Issue 18
➜ Romance Me Romantic music is a must! Strings and melodies, swooning sounds of yesteryear are all going to be there. In live performances, I focus on classic melodies that hearken back to romantic times and move feet.
➜ Anything You Can Dance To Let us dance. Be it techno or disco, broken beats or drum 'n bass, we can try them all–and will!
➜ Club Kids Rave music! I really enjoy the energy found in classic 1990s high-energy music; it's at once beautiful and also gets people dancing.
➜ Latin Rhythms You'll definitely hear Brazilian samba rhythms and busy jungle drums. With beats like that, what more could you want? All, of course, mixed with my own original compositions.
➜ Rock Out Perhaps I will have the chance to play some of my favorite mixes of electronic music sounds from recent years, with little snippets of music from Nirvana, Aphex Twin, Daft Punk, Portishead or The Stone Roses.
