Zhou Weihua is a contemporary Chinese artist who appreciates beauty. His paintings almost always have a positive “energy” to them; the bright blue-sky backgrounds that he uses are not only attractive, but they remind us of unpolluted skies and unspoiled nature, and the faces of the figures he paints look like they are filled with joy and happiness. The angles of the lighting that Zhou uses on the figures add to the intense feelings conveyed by his artworks. In virtually all of his paintings, Zhou manages to capture an enthusiastic spirit.

Zhou Weihua is not caught up in the "pain", "angst" or the over-exaggerated expressions that are so trendy among his contemporaries. The artist explains that Chinese society now has a multitude of influences, from national to international, so he draws his inspiration from everywhere around him. Zhou Weihua sometimes paints girls with enthusiastic smiles on their face, juxtaposed with other figures. Zhou often paints famous figures, which tend to be the artist's personal favorite celebrities - for their beauty, talent or influence; celebrities like Audrey Hepburn, Lu Xun, John Lennon, Lei Feng, Shrek, Lu and Deng Xiaoping. He also paints animals or plants and sometimes even little plastic toys or dolls. Zhou often combines his subjects, indicating how they all play a roll in the modern information age.
