BJ08 Instants Decisifs
Turning the long-cherished notion of needing to capture the 'perfect', spontaneous, un-staged moment on camera on its head, photographer Leleu painstakingly drew upon thousands of images he had from the Beijing Olympics and edited non-stop for almost a year to create the 12 photographs on display. Besides poking at the idea of 'decisive instants', his work also speaks to the acceptance of Photoshop in today's world of art photography.

This is a series of photographs which have been produced from nearly 4500 total, edited on computer over a non-stop period of almost one year to create 12 "perfect" images, with the crowds exactly as the photographer would have wished them to be, creating the perfect "decisive instants" during a brief moment in history called the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
This series of technically accomplished artworks is both a statement of the uncontested acceptance of Photoshop into the creative vocabulary of art photography, and a subtle poke at Cartier-Bresson's theory of the "instant décisif", saying, very very briefly, that the perfect picture could or should not be staged, amongst a whole ton of other socio-political metaphor!
The quality of these pictures could not be any higher, with every aspect of the final production maintained at a Olympian level...
