Suzhou is located near the east shore of Lake Tai where the Grand canal joins the Yangtze river. It was once the capital of the state of Wu during the late spring & autumn period more than 2500 years ago.

Known as "The Venice of the East" and” the city of gardens”, Suzhou is a water city with numerous lakes and waterways and over 60 elegant classical gardens. The four famous gardens are the Master of Nets Garden, Lingering Garden, Lion’s Grove and the Humble Administrator's Garden.

Suzhou is a key silk production centre in China and the embroidery school here is ranked in the "top 4" for the whole of China.
