COMING & GOING New Paintings by Wang Qing September 12 - October 12
Wang Qing is an artist that a lot of people are talking about, a secret to some, known to many, and undeniably some of the most original works of the season. In short though these works are eccentric, dense, complexly layered, simply executed and certainly captivating and universal in their appeal.
The paintings are composed from thousands of photos taken by the artist of random strangers in large metropolises around the world, Tokyo, New York, Shanghai, he prints these then scatters them on his floor and draws and paints each of these people in the work, layering them on a thick Japanese drafting paper, which is then mounted on board or canvas.
These just might be some of the most original paintings you will see in Shanghai this Fall. Many of the art professionals in the Shanghai scene have been captivated by this new style of work, and we at ART LABOR agree that Wanq Qing is certainly on to something unusual and fresh. We can, once again, promise you haven't seen this before!
