English Teaching Volunteers
Songnan Town Cultural Center, 500 Songnan Lu
Volunteer to spend your two of your Saturdays per month teaching underprivileged migrant children English. These kids have shown a keen interest and ability for the language, but can't afford tutoring that wealthier students get, and are at risk of falling behind. At least three month commitment needed.

Songnan Town Cultural Center in association with Stepping Stones is looking for 4 volunteer English teachers to teach 2 Saturdays a month. Classes are for 30 students grades 3-4 and will focus on oral English. The cultural center is a 30 minute cab ride from downtown Shanghai and taxi fares will be provided. We're looking for volunteers who are energetic confident. Teaching experience is not necessary, but a high level of English fluency is important (a little Chinese helps too!). The classes are shared by two teachers who work on curriculum (textbook or photocopied handouts) and teach alternate weekends. The classes aim to provide the children of migrant workers and the underprivileged children of Songnan with the confidence to actually practice their English. Often these children can't afford the kind of English tutoring classes that many middle class families have access to and are at the risk of falling behind. They are selected from local schools based on their keenness and ability and the classes are generally well behaved. We're looking for a long-term commitment of at least 3 months. For more information, please contact Rebecca at rebeccacatching@gmail.com or 139 1637 3474. We're hoping to begin classes on November 7.
