City Weekend Says

For the first Shanghai By Bus of 2010, get ready for the live 8-bit reggae-dub madness from Disrupt and MC Soom T. Disrupt founded Jahtari, a label that pioneered 8-bit reggae - think Commodore 64 plus dirty basslines, '80s low-fi samples and a good dose of humor. There will be live sets plus DJ support from Steve Barker from BBC Radio's On the Wire.

For the first Shanghai By Bus of 2010 we are finally bringing a couple of artists which have been on our ‘to book’ list for over a year! Get ready for the live 8-bit reggae-dub madness that is JAHTARI with Distrupt and MC Soom T!!!!!

Distrupt

After spending a few year experimenting with bizzare combinations of music (Gabba over Digital Hardcore to Electronica), Distrupt’s heart was finally won over by Dub and Reggae. Due to lack of cash and other reasons, Distrupt decided to start making dub music with his one and only tool at hand – a cheap laptop! Not long after this, the notorious JAHTARI label was born and the dub-reggae world was never the same again. Mixing together Atari and Comadore 64 sounds, equal amounts of fresh ideas and dirty heaviness, plus a good dose of humour – the Jahtari sound is like no other!

Soom T

Soom T is the Glaswegian wonder known to many for her eclectic vocal stylings and mass collaborations having shared a studio and over 40 record releases since 1999 with the likes of The Orb, T.Raumschmiere, King Creosote, Miss Kittin, The Bug, Mungos Hifi, Bus, Asian Dub Foundation and many other style defining artists, securing Soom T's position as an innovator of originally developed musical disciplines. On recording several tracks with Disrupt and fellow label mates Maffi, Soom T discovered a production vibe undoubtedly suited to her progressive vocal output and vowed to dedicate to the new found sound known simply as Digital Laptop Reggae. With a bundle of European shows with Disrupt and several riotous crowd churning sets having left a firm imprint on European audiences, the Jahtari and Soom T marriage looks set to become a union of legendary proportions.
