Harry Powell makes his living marrying widows and murdering them for their money, believing that this is his duty to God to get rid of women who arouse men’s carnal instincts. After being arrested for auto theft, Powell is put in a cell with condemned murderer Ben Harper and during there time together finds out that Harper has stole and hidden $10,000, with only his daughter knowing its whereabouts. After Harper is executed, Powell is released with only one thing on his mind….
Charles Laughton’s ‘Night Of The Hunter’ is heralded by film critics and movie buffs as one of the best films of its era. A tense, moody, dark and beautiful piece of film making, its movies like this that inspired us to start Sub-Cinema.
