Sub-Cinema present: Shaw Brothers Double Bill!!
Tuesday 16th February – Shaw Brothers Double Bill!
To celebrate Sub-Cinema turning weekly we present the first Double Bill night with 2 classic kung-fu flicks from the legends of martial arts cinema – The Shaw Brothers!!
Both films are in Mandarin with English Sub-Titles
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
San Te, a young student, is drawn into a rebel group against the Manchu’s by his rebellious teacher. After realizing that the group are soft as shit, San Te decides to travel to the Shaolin Temple to study Chinese Kung Fu and then re-teach it to his group of rebels. San Te sneaks into the school and starts training, mastering the 35 training chambers – but what to do after you have finished all 35???
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is one of the greatest ever kung fu movies with some of the most amazing and entertaining training scenes in kung fu cinema! Wu-Tang Wu-Tang!
The Master of the Flying Guillotine
After discovering that his student was killed by a one armed man, the flying guillotine master (disguised as a Lama) burns down his own house (??) and sets out to decapitate the one armed boxer (aswell as any other one armed men he comes across on his travels). Meanwhile, a martial arts tournament is set up with no age or style restrictions. As many warriors from around China and Asia gather for the tournament (including a stretchy armed yoga master (Dhalsim?), a Japanese guy who fights without a knife but secretly has a knife, and a thai kick boxer who likes to dance) word gets out that the one armed boxer may attend.
An incredible Shaw Brothers production which not only influenced many other directors, but also the classic computer game ‘Street Fighter’ and its many millions of sequels.
