Contributor Description

Southeast Guizhou province is renowned for its ethnic diversities and sublime sceneries. This is a condensed program for you to experience the heart of SE Guizhou though its unique festivity celebrations. Upon arrival, you shall join the celebration of Zhaoxing's Dong minorities as they engage feverishly in their autumn festivities which involves a rarely seen mass engagement of a "mud wrestling" match! With a history of over 500 years, the "Mud Man Festival", it is a form of traditional celebration for a good harvest year. During the festival, men and children all joyously jump into a pond of mud, and engage in fishing and mud wrestling competitions. It provides great entertainment for spectators, but most importantly, it is to show their love for the mother earth that provides for them. A trip to Guizhou is not completed without witnessing the folk song singing of the Dong. We'll also be visiting Xiao Huang, and Zai Dang, both are Dong villages known for the their massive scale folk song festivals during the mid Autumn period. Then we'll visit the Miao village of Biasha located in Cong Jiang County. We'll end our trip at the 600 year ancient town of Long Li. Once an important military garrison town during the Ming Dynasty, it is now one of the 4 ecological museums as a part of a Sino-Norway cultural heritage protection project.
