NOIShanghai, one of Shanghai’s most consistently innovative music series, presents musicians from Shanghai, the USA, and Europe in a concert of experimental music, free improvisation, aleatory soundscapes, and noise.
The show will take place at www.yuyintang.com, Yu Yin Tang, Long Cao Rd., Lane 100, on Thursday, November 23, 2006, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are 30 RMB, available at the door.
Internationally acclaimed cellist and vocalist Audrey Chen (Baltimore, USA) returns to Shanghai to perform free improvisations with saxophonist and sound artist Alessandro Bosetti (Berlin, Germany) as part of their fall tour of Eastern Asia. Audrey Chen has performed her mesmerizing, visceral improvisations around the world with a range of diverse collaborators; The Sydney Morning Herald described her music as “profoundly moving, funny, and unremittingly intense.” The work of Alessandro Bosetti work blurs the lines between composition and anthropology, and his abstract electronic works often find their basis in field recordings and interviews. For over 10 years, Ben Houge, (Seattle, USA) has been designing audio and writing music for videogames. For the past two years he has been based in Shanghai, working for the French videogame developer Ubisoft, and in this time he has performed at the Zendai Museum of Modern Art, Sound Currents, and several NOIShanghai events. Torturing Nurse are mainstays on Shanghai’s experimental music scene, masterminding the NOIShanghai concerts and a range of other events, tirelessly supporting underground artists from China and beyond, and passionately introducing new sounds to Shanghai. Their shows are wild, energetic, defiantly loud, and consistently exuberant.
