This charity places 200 volunteers to teach in 16 migrant schools around the suburbs of Shanghai. Their aim is to improve the children's oral English, build their confidence and help them pass their middle school entrance exam. Professional training is provided for volunteers, as is the opportunity to co-teach. Requirements: a good level of English, patience, enthusiasm and genuine interest in teaching.

Description -
Stepping Stones was founded two years ago with a mission to introduce expat and local volunteers to teach English at Shanghai's schools for migrant children, with a view to improving their oral English, building their confidence and helping them pass their middle school entrance exams.
Our network consists of more than 200 volunteers teaching in 16 schools in various suburbs of Shanghai. The classes are mostly primary, but we also have a few junior middle school classes. Most volunteers teach at their school on a weekly basis, either during the week or at the weekend.
We provide professional teacher training and support to the volunteers. Volunteers who are not confident to teach English alone can act as co-teachers. The only requirements are a good level of English, high level of enthusiasm and patience, and an interest in teaching English to new learners.
This programme offers a rewarding and meaningful way to get to know another side of Shanghai's society and to contribute to the education of under-privileged children.
