This North African nook shelters white washed walls and ceramic lanterns, perfect for enjoying fresh mint-infused drinks, marinated salads, couscous and aromatic clay-pot tagines laced with cinnamon and spice. The Moroccan pizza is highly recommended. In the summer, head out to the back patio where mosquito netting sets a romantic mood.

The atmosphere here is great. You've got to duck a bit to get in the door but it has a real coziness to it. I love the bongo room, a perfect spot to relax with a hookah and your own gentle rhythms. The vegetable tagine is quite nice, delicately spiced and aromatic, and we really enjoyed the long green bean salad. My friend thought the chicken tagine was a bit difficult to dive into because of the bones and such, so if you order this one, be prepared to work at it a little bit.

I was disappointed with this place. It looks great and I'd been looking forward to it. But what awful service. We went in and were seated in the courtyard and then the waitress didn't come back ... we waited for around 10 minutes and I had to get up and actually ask for a menu. Then .... no one came to take our order. OK, starting to be annoying. We had a fantastic starter though a spicy peanut fish dish (forgot the name), but the main courses were really lame. Tasteless couscous with tateless tagine. Left us really craving some flavour. So when they cleared our plates I asked for the menu to look at the dessert list ... Did they bring the menu? No! So after ten minutes I got up and just asked for the bill, which came, but then again, I had to get up and actually take the money!! What is wrong with you people?! Nice place but disappointing food and really anger-inducingly bad service.

Service was bad. And the food? Not only didn't the food taste Moroccan, it didn't taste good. The vegetable tagine, was undercooked and tasted like a thousand bay leaves. The beef and lamb meatball (I believe it's called kefta on anybody elses menu) tagine tasted like the meatballs had been cooked for several days and then left to hang around outside for another couple before being dumped back into the flavorless tomato sauce. The drinks were strong but not tasty and not worth the price. Not going back.

By the way, the Cityweekend review must be very old coz they don't have Moroccan pizza and briouates since more than 1 year now. And I've never seen mosquito netting over there.

I have been in Shanghai almost 3 years and I am a neighbour of the restaurant Marrakech. After work I go to Marrakech just to relax to have my favorite cocktail (Marrakech republic) then last week the staff show me the new menu. I saw the Morocco pizza is BACK! it's so good and I really recommende this place for the atmosphere, their home made dishes, and I look forward to taste all the new dishes

Where You Eat
Name: Claire Weustenraed Profession: Business Development
Living very close to Arch on Wukang Lu, this has become one of my favorite places to eat in the evenings. You feel really relaxed and can enjoy some good wines and food while looking at the photography exhibitions. It feels like home. My favorite lunch place is La Casbah; their sandwiches are just so yummy. If you add a fresh-squeezed orange or apple juice this is the perfect light lunch. My all-time dinner date favorite is Marrakech. This cozy setting provides all the mood and atmosphere you need to make you feel like you're right in the middle of Morocco. Try their chicken couscous or lamb barbecue brochette--delicious! The owner is friendly so don't forget to stop and chat.

Moroccan Mecca
Newly renovated and menu revamped, this cozy, bordering on romantic, slice of Morocco harbored in a former French Concession villa retains its African atmosphere, infusing spicy flavors for the adventurous food lover. The succinct menu, representative of the mysterious Marrakech, makes dining selections quick and easy. The wait staff is also eager to recommend dishes and explain ingredients. For starters, we chose briouates (YY45), triangular deep-fried chicken and vegetable-filled morsels reminiscent of Indian samosas, which were crispy and astonishingly tasty. Skipping an enticing array of kebabs, we ordered a lamb tagine (YY128), named for its authentic clay cooking vessel, and vegetable couscous (YY68). The tender lamb, covered with a sweet sauce of prunes, dates and raisins with a hint of cinnamon, was outstanding and perfectly complimented by the seasonal vegetables atop couscous. Delightfully unique, the cuisine and ambiance continues to present a fun eating experience. --Peggy Rosen
