Caroline and Nick Major (Aussies, brother and sister) from Shanghai Pie wrote "I've promised in this blog to write about the great food finds in Shanghai (and China) but delivered little. So yesterday when i went out on a sales call in Hong Qiao and had my little cotton socks knocked off with THE BEST coffee i've had in I can't remember how long, I remembered that pledge. This coffee is not only worth travelling for, it's worth telling everybody about.
Mark Plummer, the man behind this unique Melbourne roast, mentioned his passion for the brew while we talked about other things and i sipped on my latte.. It was smooth and flavourful with not even a trace of bitterness. Nick praised the balance of his quad shot ristretto on the palette, its smooth finish good cream and fresh taste. This is coffee that could convert a nation of tea drinkers and most certainly supriese anyone who has gotten used to a substandard cup of brew.
It was with a guilty pleasure that i asked for a second cup of latte, served Australian style in a glass that Mark really got talking about the coffee and the four things that make it. But i recommend you go and ask him yourself. While he's still got the time to sit and chat. The lifestyle store of which he is the lord has just opened in a hidden spot just off the Hong Mei Lu restaurant strip. Scout about for it, and if you get lost, look skyward for the twinned Australian and Chinese Flags guiding you in to Shanghais' best coffee. I kid you not."

The Happy Hour specials at this comfortable Hongqiao wine and coffee bar are well-worth checking out, with half-off glasses of wine from 6 - 9 p.m. Would recommend a visit for a glass of wine or to warm up with a frothy latte or mocha.

Really delicious wine. I was surprised that a Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon combo wine was in fact so smooth and pleasant to drink.
The staff were really helpful - a nice bunch.

10Z3 Restaurant Review
‘A little picture of Australia’ is how the owner of 10Z3 describes his new venture in Shanghai’s world of cuisine- a fitting summary of this small, yet charming cafe/restaurant/winery…..clothes shop! Confused? I certainly was as I entered 1OZ3 for the first time. The clean and simple décor with wooden chairs and tables gave the place a relaxed feel and felt entirely unpretentious however the wine cellar which covered the back wall and the clothes boutique in the corner I have to admit, left me feeling intrigued and if I’m honest, a little confused. But with the explication of the name, all was revealed. 1OZ3 when spoken in Chinese sounds most remarkably like 1,2 3, highlighting the 3 main elements of the restaurant: Coffee, wine and clothing. The remarkable thing about this restaurant is that almost everything is Australian. While tucking into my mouth watering 100% Australian beef burger, TV images and Australian musicians played to my hearts content, I mean strewth!! They even sold Weetbix. Despite this however it was not just another ‘themed’ bar or restaurant with flags and sporting memorabilia littering the walls. It was refreshing to find something Australian that broke away from the cliché of cork hats and surfers. The menu is simple yet enjoyable but the coffee is the real piece de resistance. There are more than 20 different types (grown in Australia) on the menu- it’s a caffeine addicts dream.
With the most expensive food item an unbelievable 65rmb and happy hour beer at 12.5rmb this restaurant appeals to Expats and Chinese alike, looking to experience a westernized menu at a competitive price. Hidden away in an alley behind the Hong Mei Lu entertainment street the location is not ideal but in my opinion it’s a hidden gem definitely worth the find.--By Clare McAndrew, Editor from Enjoy China

1 Oz 3 has a great Australian inspired menu, but its highlight is the rich coffee and cellar of Australian wines. I exhaled with relief to find the decor was not kitschy - no emu / roo coat of arms or footy jumpers plastered to the walls. I love the little fashion boutique addition in the far back corner, although I must admit I've never heard of Typical Star back home. I like the designs though - definitely wearable and affordable.
And did someone mention Weetbix....? Now that's class.

Come for the Drinks
This Australian wine, coffee bar and restaurant located just steps away from Hongmei Lu food street offers a wide range of dining options including salads, sandwiches and burgers. However, despite the variety, we found the real draw to the cafe to be the selection of wine and coffee. Our chicken pot pie (YY58) with salad and fries was disappointing, being both small for the price and slightly undercooked, but the Uwell Shiraz (YY22.5rmb--normally YY45) and a smooth and frothy mocha (YY36) were just what we needed on a cold night. With half-off happy hour specials on wine everyday from 6 to 9 pm, a trip to this cafe is worth the visit, if only for the drinks. --Dawn Carlson
