Another new bread shop in Shanghai is a beehive of activity with the aroma of baking bread and other sweet smells filling the air. Numerous offerings are a feast for the eyes and agreeable to the palate and pocket book--a few delicacies will scarcely set you back 10 kuai. Take out or eat in.

well the place is not what I would go for hangout with my friends. However, I have to say they have very nice bread and deserts. Their buns are soft and delicious. not too dry. The most important is that I trust their quality as not too many local bakery shops have that standard yet.

New Bake Kids on the Block
Shanghai is experiencing a war of the bread shops these days. Another new addition, from Taiwan, is Café 85oC. Teeming with customers, a beehive of frenetic activity, the aroma of baking bread and sweet smells here fill the air. Appealing and filling are the pizza slices on thin sliced crispy bread covered with sauce, onions and green pepper (YY6). The garlic bread is plump, delicious and extra garlicky (YY3.5) an array of offerings are a feast to the eyes and agreeable to the pocket book (range of YY3.5 to YY7). One drawback--all descriptions are in Chinese, so either bring a Chinese friend to interpret or be adventurous and let your foodie instincts dictate your choices. Better yet, have a tea or coffee for only YY10 accompanied by one of the fancier desserts like yummy blueberry cheesecake. Skip the mocha chocolate cake, it's way too bitter. Your best bet is the mini strawberry tower, a Chinese version of real strawberry shortcake (YY12). Take out or eat in at the cozy corner tables any time of the day. --Peggy Rosen
