The latest addition to the Otto group offers a relaxed yet sophisticated setting overlooking People's Square. Two spacious terraces provide the ideal atmosphere in which to enjoy an array of wines paired with light dishes--pastas, salads, sandwiches and an array of canapes.

Came here for lunch last week with a large group, you'd never know that they'd only been open a week! I was very impressed with the service and the lunch menu is quite nice even though they didn't offer everything on the menu just yet. To make up for it, they brought our large group a sample of every single dessert on the menu, which was a wonderful way to end the meal.

Issue 15, Shaken and Stirred: B-52 Solid, Otto Café & Wine Bar
"After a late night at the office, we stopped by Otto to unwind. After chatting with Francesco for a bit, we were surprised when he suggested one of their solids. We thought Jell-O shots were reserved for blurry uni. nights, but Otto's solids are an adult version that'll get you buzzed without giving you frat party flashbacks. We tried out into the B-52 solid (fork recommended, there's no Dixie cup this time), which has been on the menu since the beginning of the summer. This jiggler layers the B-52's traditional alcohols (Grand Marnier, Kahlua and Bailey's) and serves it up on a plate with fellow solids like a Cube Libre, Blueberry Martini and Gin and Fizz. At 40 percent alcohol, these shots, er, solids stay true to their roots but bridge Otto's pastry and bartending skills by adding an adult twist to a jiggly favorite."

Nums the Word
Surprisingly busy for a late weeknight, we took a seat at the bar in the midst of the action. A Sicilian red Cusumano Benuara (YY48) grabbed our attention among the small but diverse wine selection--the perfect match to our Spanish Meatballs starter (YY38) and house serving of warm focaccia with savory dips. Our second course of Pumpkin Ginger Soup (YY38) came just in time. Topped with an artsy cream swirl, it toned up nicely with a plate of fresh goat cheese and greens (YY58) with balsamic standing by. With one tasty bite after the other, the anticipation of our Vegetarian Lasagna (YY78) was soon more than satisfied with flavorful mushrooms, spinach and other veggies encased in delicious layers of pasta that were not at all skimpy on the cheese. Sadly, the Gnocchi with Tomato Mozzarella Sauce (YY78) was a mediocre serve. Undercooked with bland seasoning, it wasn't even a close second. Bad night for the chef perhaps, but after a few bites, our taste buds had already moved on to dessert. With the biggest selection on offer (not that we're complaining), we first eyed the dessert menu's exotic fruit plate and then the sweet de rigueur tiramisu, but couldn't resist the lure of the Chocolate Nums (YY38), a guiltless portion of crunchy bits with warm chocolate filling on a bed of whipped cream and fruity coulis worth every bite. Topped off with a shot of espresso (YY30), we awoke from our glucose trance long enough to take in the incredible veranda views. A fabulous evening of good food and wine with one small miss easily forgiven makes this a place definitely worth returning to. -Stephanie Thomas
