This authentic Parisian boulangerie turns out fresh baked goods on-site at several glamorous locations around town. Serving a tempting array of breads, tarts, cakes, pastries, sandwiches and special occasion treats since 1889, this spot entices unsuspecting visitors to take home a baker's dozen.

I had been impressed with the quality of the breads at Paul's and so I took some visiting friends there for breakfast. Five minutes after ordering, we were told they were out of "homemade cottage cheese" (turns out it's just yogurt anyway). And although most of their breakfast menus feature fresh juice, they were out of this as well, blaming a lack of oranges on their company's delivery service (as if you can't find oranges anywhere in Shanghai). This narrowed the original 8 menu choices down to 2. We chose the 3rd: breakfast around the corner at The Deli, featuring excellent service at half the price. Thank you to the staff at Paul's for your lack of creativity and resourcefulness!!

I went to PAUL Dongping Lu chain last Saturday to buy a slice of chocolate mousse for my boyfriend’s birthday. I must say I had a very unhappy experience.
When I walked into the store, I saw a staff standing next to the counter taking orders from customers. However, all she was aiming at was foreign customers including those who came in after me. I waited for almost five minutes to place my order, but she never came to me. Well, I guess that’s not TOO BAD.
After I ordered a slice of chocolate mousse (RMB42), I was told they needed to decide if they can cut a slice from the whole cake or not, which took another two minutes. When they told me I can at last get my slice, one of the staff (who is appointed to cut the slice for me) said “Fan Si Le” behind the counter right in front of me, which means “too much trouble”. I think even I didn’t spend a lot of money, I don’t deserve that as a customer and it’s their job to CUT THE CAKE. Well, the chocolate mousse tastes great, but it’s still expensive to considering the actual size.
I don’t think I’ll go back to PAUL for a while. Suggestion from my boyfriend is “Speak English next time if I need to go, making them think you’re an overseas Chinese.” I hate to believe that, but it might be the truth.

This is the nicest Paul in Shanghai. Located in a nice building in a nice street, you almost feel you are in Paris. The decor is very typical French - lunch is good, salad portions large and their desserts faultless. Not the cheapest in town but breakfast and lunch is fine....but dinner is boring.....they open till late but there's nothing interesting in the menu for dinner at all. Some hot soups or hot food would be welcome. I will always go back but unless they change the dinner menu....you'll see me there for breakfast or lunch only. One more thing : sevice staff need to be better trained....they seem to lack any initiative or interest in their work.

PAUL's tea room, for light French-style dining, features sandwiches, savory and sweet tarts, crepes, simple dishes and salads are perfect for a little lunch break.
