    City Weekend Says

Serving home-style Chinese fast food similar to that found overseas, the dishes at this restaurant are tasty and filling. Classics such as sweet and sour pork, black pepper beef and fried noodles hit the mark. Sichuan and Cantonese offerings are also ready to be sampled as you enjoy the relaxed, albeit tacky, atmosphere.

    Overseas Chinese

Kitchen 88 is reminiscent of those quick, on-the-fly Chinese fast-food restaurants found back home. The egg and turnip pancake (YY28) provided a pleasing contrast of light fluffy eggs and preserved turnips. Boneless chicken with black bean sauce followed (YY40). Salty, tangy and succulent, this dish paired nicely with steamed rice accompanied by stir-fried broccoli which was fresh and crisp (YY26). Sweet and sour pork (YY38) was very well executed; the pork, dusted in corn starch, fried and covered in a glaze of sweet and sour sauce was garnished with pineapple and bell pepper, striking the right balance in flavor and texture. Service is accommodating and the restaurant is comfortable, albeit tacky. Overall, Kitchen 88 is a good choice when less adventurous guests arrive, or when something more familiar is desired. --Bryan Harsar
