    City Weekend Says

Brian Tan’s Puxi venue, a dessert slash wine lounge, offers House of Flour’s amazing chocolate cake, and a few new utterly delicious creations like Chocolate Sinan Lu (we’ll leave you to find the surprise), and a heavenly chocolate mousse cake with buttery crunchies inside. If you’re in a salty mood, go for bacon wrapped prune tapas or the scrumptious ¥98 cheese plate. HoF offers wine, tapas, gelato, coffee, tasty designer cocktails and truffles in addition to dessert.

Find of the Week | Our Chocolate Lover

Put rows of Shanghai’s best chocolate cakes in front of us and you can bet that we will be tempted by every sinful, fudgy slice. Since we’ve literally tried everything at hoF (it’s all so good), we can say with conviction that our favorite is the chocolate and caramel mousse cake (¥36). The first layer of rich Belgian chocolate mousse, packed with flavor, not sugar, complements the toasted gold caramel mousse of the second.

Nubs of distinctively buttery, slightly savory cookie suspended within a caramel stratosphere recall the exquisite taste of French sea salt sprinkled caramels. The creamy layers are enrobed in a glossy coat of real dark chocolate–not that sour, brown flavored goop we see too often on generic chocolate cakes. It’s all the small but meaningful touches that make hoF’s chocolate and caramel mousse cake the edible friend we happily run to.
