Finally, there's a local alternative to imported ice creams. This small shop offers batches of gelato in more than forty classic and seasonal flavors, each batch made fresh in Shanghai with non-fat milk. Try classic flavors like the thick stracciatella, flavor-packed lychee or the sinfully rich dark chocolate gelato. Pop by for a free sample.
There's soft-serve ice cream from a certain set of golden arches, there's hard-packed "imported" ice cream from a certain retailer out of New Jersey (hint: its initials are H.D.), and then there's true artisanal ice cream - gelato - made daily in Shanghai from Le Creme Milano. Staying true to its Italian heritage, LCM offers over forty different flavors of gelato, from classics such as stracciatella, tiramisu, and panna cotta to Shanghai favorites such as mango, lychee, and yangmei.
Best of all, LCM's gelato is healthy and guilt-free; cream-based flavors have less than 5% fat content (compared to more than 20% in regular ice cream) thanks to the use of non-fat milk and all fruit flavors (with the exception of coconut) contain zero lactose, meaning those who are lactose intolerant can finally enjoy their fill of the good stuff!
Le Creme Milano is located just south of the flower market on Shanxi Nan Lu between Fuxing Lu and Yongjia Lu. It's the shop with the big crystal light in the entrance. Come in for a free sample and let the gelato speak for itself.
