Tucked away on a quiet French Concession lane, this fusion eatery is a cut above, offering tasty fusion dishes like tuna ba-lulah steak or lobster fettuccine. The hip crowd munches new wave feasts against a stylish and modern backdrop. Eat by candlelight on the patio if the weather's nice.

Description

Tucked away in a small lane in the French Concession. Attached to the boutique hotel Old House Inn, A Future Perfect has an airy white decor with large splashes of lime green, and some of the coziest garden dining in town. If you're here with a group, ask for the friends and family table, which is a large elevated corner booth great for people watching.Soup, salad, pasta, and meat dishes will cure any homesick cravings you may have. Check the changing specials on the inserts of the menu. There are also substantial set lunches, along with a full bar. For those toting their own laptops and cannot be off-grid for even a few hours, the restaurant offers free wireless with your meals.

This restaurant has been going for quite a while, after couple of years in business they are doing a great job. Interesting food, tasty, well executed & presented. Friendly service, pleasant ambiance. Pretty busy too, we took a chance on a Saturday night, and were initially seated outside. As soon as space became available indoors we were moved in. The service did not suffer because of the crowd. Definitely a cut above the average.

It was quite calm around the restaurant as located in the residential place. the door was not cosy that i might not recognize it if there were not the sign on the wall.

And when entering the door with an idea of something very calm meaning not many people, only a old lady was having dinner with reading a book and my friends who came earlier than me.

the food was quite served slowly but it deseres to wait a while that the dishes were better than expected.

hmmm prices were a bit expensive than expected as one of dishes was 188rmb that did not look so. ^^;;

We went back to a future perfect last friday night to celebrate my birthday with some close friends. Once again the food was fantastic and the service was great. These guys really know how to make you feel welcome and at home. The restaurant was continually full and busy, but the noise and chatter wasn’t over the top, and despite the staff all being busy, they all still made time to make us feel extra welcome and happy. The waiters bring everything out the food at just the right time, and clear away the excess dishes at just the right pace too. will definitely come back.

Second Bite | A Taste of Spring

When we heard that this mainstay fusion restaurant was rolling out a new spring menu, we rushed over. After all, the venue exudes springtime–pastel colors, a huge selection of fresh juices and cheery wait staff.

Our tuna ceviche (¥82) starter with pistachio and chive was supremely fresh, though it had a strong flavor of sesame oil. The steak salad (¥79), however, was nearly perfect, with well-seasoned meat accompanied by giant, tender asparagus. While we wondered why it was on the spring menu, a dish of gnocchi with a heavenly bleu cheese sauce (¥76) begged to be eaten with a basket of bread on hand, lest any drop of the creamy sauce be missed.

An ambitious beef roulade stuffed with goose liver and bleu cheese (¥128) was rather intensely flavored. The star of the meal was a menu mainstay: the moist cod served with wonderfully seasoned black rice (¥188). Jordan Calinoff

This was the second time to go back. The service sucks. Waitresses have an attitude. Food is not as good as before and definitely cannot justify the high prices.

we have been here a few times, me and my family. this is a typical western restaurant catering to us foreigners and us foreigners who are willing to pay that extra cost. lunch sets are reasonable and still what value? milkshakes 45 rmb. ouch. but all and all, food is never too disappointing and its worth at least a one time visit.

Been visiting every couple of months and have to say the lunch sets are good value for money. Not all the sets are good (for example, the beef stroganoff which has been quite tasteless on the occasions it been ordered by our lunch group) but overall, good value. What is disappointing (from recent visit) was the ala carte menu. Blue cheese burger was ok but not spectacular and definately not worth the RMB98. And the "icing" was the lychee tiramisu - more like a mascarpone cake with no other worthy ingredient of substance! At RMB68, definitely a menu item to make up the revenue gap with the lunch sets.

First tried AFP several years ago and had a bout of food poisoning (I suspect a vindictive waiter). Gave it another chance recently for brunch, and the food was decent, if not spectacular. The salmon (Thor's something) is a good choice. Stop by if in the neighborhood, but no need to make a special trip.

Good breakfast/brunch place. Portions are large. Food tastes good. Wine by the glass is reasonable.

Came here one night for dinner with a group of 5 people, most of us had never eaten there before. I thought the food was good, I had the duck salad, and we all shared a few appetizers like the quesadilla. They have a nice selection of different options and a decent wine list. I would come back again for sure.

Busy Breakfast Journey down the lane to this restaurant in the early hours of the morning and you will generally find that it's packed. Breakfast at A FuturePerfect is reasonably priced in the same vein as most other western restaurants that offer early bird culinary delights; however, the selection is not traditional nor is it a greasy spoon. AFP offers some more daring versions of your favourite classics so be prepared for something a bit more edgy than bacon and eggs.

Total Misleading Review Ten of us (from 6 different countries) booked for dinner at this restaurant after reading the following review:"If only more restaurants like A FuturePerfect would open, Shanghai's dining scene might truly journey towards perfection." Guess what? The experience was highly disappointing and only one of us was happy with his order. "Submersion into new wave dining"? All I can say is this restaurant will not be able to survive without major improvement. Let's see in 6 months.
