Along the Huangpu’s banks in the oasis of Youlong garden, this red-walled mansion offers a tantalizing menu. Honey and almond encrusted lamb and baked porcini-crusted black cod bless elegantly laid tables. It also offers a legitimate ice bar, complete with Northface parkas to keep the chill away.

We visited The Binjiang One a few weeks ago with our family from England. Everyone was impressed by the Snow Bar with it's extensive range of flavoured vodka shots and Polar ski jackets to keep the Arctic temperatures at bay. The restaurant is also impressive, with the main feature being the view of the Huangpu river and the Bund. The menu has a good selection of appetizers which are tasty and artistically presented, but leave you wanting more (maybe that's a good thing, but I like to at least take the edge off my appetite). The menu also has many mouthwatering main course options, such as dark chocolate and bbq braised lamb shank 188rmb, (enjoyed by my nephew) or poached turbot fillet and sauteed foie gras with creamy morels, green asparagus and veal stock 228rmb. My mother-in-law chose this option as it was the simplest dish on the menu, but whilst she enjoyed the fish, she left the foie gras, morels and the asparagus. I ordered a squid ink pasta from the menu, which was delcious and I thorough enjoyed it (perhaps because I was still really hungry after my starter - see photo). Surprisingly, everyone still had room left for a dessert and cleared their plates in record time. I'm not sure how the prices compare with other Pudong restaurants, however, the river setting puts this in the "Expensive for Shanghai" price range. The City Weekend price guide at the top of the page is quite misleading as "more than Y400 per couple" should read more that Y400 per person, and that's estimated on the low side once the wine and 10% service have been added on.
If cost is not an issue and you want tasty food, good wines, excellent service and a stylish restaurant with a view, look no further.

This is an excellent restaurant. The food and views are equally enticing. Jazz musicians entertain you as you enjoy your dinner overlooking the other side of the Bund. Try a shot of vodka in the ice bar after! What fun!
