An old favorite with a rich history. Housed in the French Concession in the former Soong family mansion, this establishment has all the bases covered. The tasteful bar, lounge and garden are consistently packed with a happy crowd of expats eager to sample the continental cuisine.

Second Bite | Back in Action

With new management and a reopened second floor (where Prime used to be), Sasha's was just crying out for a second look. The new menu offers a revised selection of standard Western fare: think striploin steak and fish and chips. Or order Sasha’s thin-crust pizza in the smartly decorated upstairs dining room. Waited on by attentive staff, we started with a bowl of deep-fried calamari (¥45) which was filling, even for two, yet disappointingly bland. But the 280 gram hunk of melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin steak (¥165), served with creamy peppercorn sauce and a generous helping of sautéed potatoes, was cooked to perfection and went well with a glass of Merlot (¥50). Our old standby, the margherita pizza (¥70), lived up to its reputation as one of the best pizzas in town with a thin, crispy crust and a good heaping of cheese. To finish, we worked on a satisfyingly sweet Eton Mess (¥50), a dessert of strawberries, meringue and cream, before sinking into a contented food coma. Perfect for soaking up the candlelit atmosphere and beautiful Asia-inspired colonial surroundings.

Been there yesterday for brunch, as we were very late, I think it was half past two in the afternoon, we decided to order our food of the menu and not go for buffet (this was on until 3). I had a croque madame, which was just amazing. Very nice roasted ham, great cheese, very good bread and topped with two fried eggs. Also, the fries that went with it were nice. My husband had the pancakes with maple sirup. They were good, too, but just a rather small portion. Had Cafe Latte to go with it, they know how to do it, only thing was, they just gave us one pack of sugar each, and when I asked for more, since I need heaps of sugar in my coffee and my husband does as well, the waitress came back and just brought one single pack more...Well, otherwise very attentive, food was good, location was very nice, so I am sure we'll be back for the buffet.

Weekend Brunch: I have to agree with other reviewers here that not only has the price gone up but the food quality and choice has gone down. However, that said, they do somethings well and have a bottomless cup of coffee, which in some other places could be the price of the meal! They offer a 1/2 price option for kids and it is in a great location for walking around before/after.

Been there last week after a long walk around Shanghai, we choose to sit on the main floor where we were only allowed to choose from 1 specific menu. Nice building and warm atmosphere, we settled in by ordering a starter for 2... the Beijing Crispy Duck... All the trimings were nicely presented... but got 2 disappointments 1st : the Hoisin sauce... it was more like a gravy from a Sunday roast, very runny, no texture and rather salty, not ideal for that dish 2nd : we asked the waitress to give us the chopsticks, easier for picking up the trimings and the duck & place on the pancake... The waitress apologised explaining that there was no such things in Sacha's... we were astonished and thought we were in a complete different country than China... Ok... you don't usually go to this place to order a Beijing Crispy Duck but it was on the menu & we fancied it. The rest of the meal was ok but below average compared to the price, the wine we choose was nice and at the correct temperature... May go back but only for a drink

Went there reluctantly after a fd booked it insisting that with the introduction of a new menu, good food would come. Really is a below average place which somehow manages to be packed full of expats! Our tenderloin was cooked to death to which we were given a second recooked portion resulting in the best part of our meal..... 10% off food for our bill!

I have rarely seen or tasted such a demoralized, unappetizing array of dishes as I did in the Sunday brunch this past weekend at Sasha’s. This place was once THE spot for affordable, pleasant brunches—it once offered a lovely selection of breads with a toasting machine, a thick yogurt with berry fruit topping, a terrine or two--these were some of the things I looked forward to each time. Now, (perhaps with the new management?), things have gone horribly awry. Not only has the price jumped up to 120 rmb (it started as around 78, then went to 98), but the quality of the food has dropped down into the nether regions. The fine bread has disappeared and is replaced with tasteless, cheap, inedible rolls. The toasting machine is gone. There were two “hot” dishes: pork and chicken, both tough and dry. There was a platter of mediocre cold cuts. There were some sushi rolls which looked less inviting and less fresh than those sold in Lawsons. The platter of salmon rolled around cream cheese chunks, a holdover from brunches past, was neither as fresh, nor nearly as tasty as it once was, I didn’t even finish one bite-sized roll of salmon—and this was one of the dishes I scarfed back in the day. The desserts looked and tasted like those on the level of elementary school cafeteria or modern airplane food. The only attractive things on the entire buffet table were a few fresh salads, including a nice spinach salad with pine nuts. For a bill of 120 rmb, the ONLY things I could happily eat were salad, cold cereal with milk, and a greasy mini-chocolate croissant. I remember thinking to myself, I cannot imagine that management would actually want to eat this buffet themselves, I wanted to take a photo of the buffet to show to a manager and say, Hello? Did you actually take a look at this? Did you taste any of it?

Have to say that I'm was a bit disappointed to see that Sasha's Sunday brunch has now been upped to RMB120; that would be a RMB40 increase folks. Although always a solid brunch and a weekend standby for my crew, we're going to start considering other options since at a RMB120 price point, there are tons of options around Shanghai (or in this case down the street) or that offer as much food and ambiance, if not more, for the same price or less.

To me, their pizzas are among the best in town, and not that expensive. It's all about their outdoor sitting in the patio, so wait a few months for the 1st sunny days before you head there.

They charged our party 15 rmb for a glass of water. When we asked the waitress she said " Nothing is free here"...... when we asked her name her response was ...." You don't need to know my name"...... As an "expat" hang out this place has horrible customer service.. Pizza deal is not bad at 100 rmb but bring your own water!

Went to have brunch because they have very satisfactory pizza and thought their other dishes might be also delicious. Now it got to be raised to 80RMB for a brunch buffet. And it was overcrowded with people. No one in a restaunt guided the vacant tables and had to ask for a table several times. They were busy but still kind. obove all dishes were fresh and delicious. Fully satisfied with their foods. Though it had to be queued quite long to pick up the foods.

This is definitely a popular spot for expats. The dinner menu is a bit overpriced for what is offered and not, I think, the restaurant's main draws which are the beer garden in the evenings and the brunch on Sundays.

The great ambiance and large open beer garden provide a nice spot to relax, either when seeking a more leisurely evening or a preamble before heading next door to Zapata's. The pizza is great: thin crust that's not crunchy as a cracker, generous cheese and tasty toppings. And a strong selection of appetizers offer some stellar munchie options.

Brunch here is quite possibly one of the best value-for-your-dollar Sunday deals that you can find. RMB60 for a buffet of Western dishes and coffee which can be kicked up a notch with some champagne or maybe a bloody mary. You won't get water or juice on the house here, unfortunately, but it really doesn't detract too much from the experience.
