Modern art and broken pottery decorate the walls of this barn-like dining room that serves up spicy, home-style Guizhou cuisine. Specialty dishes such as the saliva chicken (it's not really what it says) and sour fish soup come adorned with spices and peppers that rival even the spiciest Sichuan fare.

ying xiang ge is where you should go for guizhou i wouldn't reccomend lao tan for those seeking a firey guizhou experience. while sour, the food lacked the requisite heat leading to unbalanced and one-sided dishes. service and decor were average at best. if you are looking for the real deal guizhou i suggest ying xiang ge. there are locations in hongqiao and near liujiazui in pudong. the food and atmosphere are excellent, and the cost is relative to if not less than prices found at lao tan. in all respects it is a far superior product. a wonderful balance of spicy and sour.
