A License to Grill

Though the name of the restaurant may delude you into thinking it was Mediterranean, make no mistake, Kebabs on the Grille does Indian fare quite well. Distinguishing itself from other Indian restaurants, this venue has adopted the Korean barbecue concept by having grill sets installed at each table. Warm naan bread (YY20) dipped into cold yogurt with mint and cucumber is always a special combination, and this one was well-executed compared to other places. Accompanied with a starter dish of the aptly named Magic Mushrooms (YY35), we began to see the charm of the place. Stuffed with curry spices and deep-fried, it's their version of the classic mushroom croquette. Avoiding tandoori chicken (YY65) at an Indian restaurant would be like committing a crime, and we had to see how the Korean barbecue concept fit into the picture. Once our table was re-fitted with a grill of hot coals, out came the chicken and Boti mutton (YY75), skewered onto long, metal rods. Both items were already cooked and just needed to be kept warm. With a dining partner that missed having open barbecues in the backyard, our table was soon surrounded by a cloud of smoke as he continually brushed oil over the meat and hot coals. Luckily for us, the staff was quite attentive and turned on the exhaust fans. Although we left with the smell of smoke still in our hair and on our clothes, we'd definitely go back for more Bollywood entertainment and tasty food. However, we might forego the oil and brush next time. --Mary E.
