SMS Guanxi and: From 6-8pm, get one free glass of house wine while dining when you show this message. Dark woods and orange hues add a masculine touch to a classy environment in which to enjoy an array of fine foods and selected wines. The real highlights are the desserts which, from the crème brûlée trio to the pastry chef's regular seasonal creations, warrant an entire meal unto themselves.

The most striking things about this new restaurant touting itself as a "gourmet café" are the huge plate glass windows that mean excellent people-watching, and the great service. Our glasses never went unfilled, a dropped knife was instantly replaced and the manager recommended dishes. A classy yet understated décor along masculine lines with a lot of dark wood, black and silver complements the menu. Short but sweet, it features Italian classics such as risottos, pastas and pizzas. Unfussy food and well-executed, the salmon steak (¥168) was tender with a just tart enough sauce and the grilled vegetable salad (¥78) was also good. For dessert, the crème brulée trio (¥48) had a thin and crisp top layer and each of the three flavors was nicely decadent. A bit light on vegetarian options, only as small side dishes, and with two incongruous televisions, but otherwise a relaxed yet stylish night out. –Elyse Singleton

We swung by Otto Restaurant & Wine Bar (Italian) because we'd heard nothing but rave reviews about the desserts. We're happy to say we weren't disappointed--the Creme Brulee Trilogy's raspberry, vanilla and chocolate flavors, tucked away beneath a lightly crusted surface, were delicious and the Mille Feuille served with Lemon Cream Yoghurt was light and creamy. Complemented by a great dessert wine recommended by Francesco, we were definitely convinced to come back for more.

Over rated. Wine markup was pretty high; I paid ~350RMB for a CA 2000 Zin that was so/so at best. Pizza was just just OK, nothing too exciting, flavors did not meld, sauce was just crushed tomatoes absent of any herbs. The crust was the only redeeming part, thin and crunchy.

Service was pushy at times and completely absent at others. Best part of the meal was the free bread, fresh baked with 3 'spreads' Won't go back

My name is Francesco and I manage Otto Restaurants. I just read the comment on your recent experience at my restaurant and I would like to thank you for your candid feedback. The many areas of improvements you highlighted will be the focus of our staff and mine on first place. I sincerely hope you will find the time to come by and give us another shot. On another note I objectively disagree and find not accurate not only the judgment on Howell Mountain Old Vine Zin 2000 ( priced at 328 not as posted at 350) which I believe truly to be a great value & nice wine (I don`t remember to have come across anything coming from Napa of this level & price on any wine list in Shanghai ) and on our wine list. Our approach to wines that comes from both professional wine industry and hospitality experience its totally committed to offer a both diverse and eclectic wine list with honest prices. The range goes from just above 200 to slightly above 1000 RMB offering mainstream and boutique wines to accommodate the different palates. Our approach goes beyond the regular dining places offering the possibility to bring your own wines at 100 RMB corkage fee per bottle that will be simply waived against the purchase of any wine from the list. I truly would like to meet you since I missed this opportunity last time and be enlightened by your view in general on wines and specially pricing coz reading your comments I am frankly puzzled and I truly do not understand where they come from.

Francesco, don't get too upset by such postings - everyone can see that this fellow is one of those many, many 'net users who get off flaming others, anonymously. Otto does a great job, and would never deserve a review like that. And BTW, I've had the Howell Mountain Old Vine Zin and it's delicious. Don't hold your breath waiting for epeter03 to call.... Just keep doing that good thing you do at Otto!

Alway the best choice for me to go for a dinner. I tried the brunch also this week. Ordered Tuna with Lemon Confit Mashed Potato as main course~ Which was the best tuna I`ve ever tried~ the tuna was not raw but well roasted, with lovely pink inside when cut~ And the mashed potato was so great!!
