This Greek restaurant serves up a selection of solid Mediterranean fare. Their authentic Greek yogurt is some of the best in town, as proven by the tzatziki and mango shakes. They've also got homestyle Italian dishes. Their rich tomato sauce is well worth a try.
Great Greek
Always on the lookout for authentic Greek yogurt, we were pleased to discover truly excellent yogurt at 1228. From the Greek tzatziki--mildly tart yogurt with cucumber and garlic piled on nibbles of pita bread (YY18)--to the mango shake--a silky mix of thick yogurt and fresh mango (YY25)--our yogurt craving was satisfied. The bland meat in our gyro sandwich could have used a dash of paprika but a smear of tzatziki helped compensate for the lackluster, overly lean slice of lamb (YY18). Overall 1228 does casual Greek cuisine well, and they also pay adequate attention to the homestyle Italian dishes on the menu. Their tomato sauce, a rich melding of chunky tomatoes, olive oil, fresh basil and garlic, was a tasty tip for our gooey fried mozzarella sticks (YY38). It also complemented a generous portion of beautifully browned cannelloni with spinach and nutty ricola (YY68). Though some of our companions complained about the starkness of the restaurant's white decor against the yellow walls, the rest of us found the Aegean colors to be inspired. If you're in the mood for dessert, make sure to grab the baklava with buttery layers of filo, nuts and honey on your way out (YY25).
