This Mediterranean restaurant draws from a number of sources for its menu but charms with its Greek-style hospitality. The great service and welcoming atmosphere, complemented some fine food, make for an unpretentious and enjoyable evening out. A real boon for the residents of Gubei.

We were here on Valentines and the service was slooow. But I'll definitely give them another try since it was a busy night and the food was still excellent. Great wine list and the owner is there regularly. They need to buy a couple more cork screws, there was only one on Valentine's day which slowed down the service, as multiple tables were drinking wine.

I went there several times. This is the first Mediterranean restaurant I've visited. I really like it for its fine atmosphere. The food there is excellent and the price is reasonable. The price of set menu for lunch time is relatively low.

Following its recent refurbishment, Guyang Lu has been transformed from part of a fairly anonymous neighborhood into a jewel in the crown of Gubei. A number of interesting eateries are housed in these neat little units, though few are as charming as Elia. We visited on an icy night when the brightness of the staff and the warm décor soon dispelled any chills we’d felt before. Our starter of Mille Feuille (Y75) was so full and meaty it could have passed for the main course. The cream of asparagus soup (Y45) was also fine, but not done any favors by its alarmingly luminous beetroot mousse topping. Though Greek-owned, Elia draws from many sources to add variety to its menu. The range of dishes on offer is attractive to the eye, though the soggy Tagliatelli (Y80), partly saved by the smoked chicken that accompanied it, is perhaps evidence they should try harder to specialize. However, full marks are given to the roasted sea bass and steamed spinach, the highlight of the menu and reason enough to seek this one out. -John Lynch
