As one of the most renowned Chinese restaurants in Shanghai, the constant quality of the delectable dishes, including the warm crab, roasted pig feet and garden salads draw loyal patrons to return. Reservations are recommended at any of the numerous elegantly-decorated and oft crowded branches throughout the city.

We visited this popular and busy Shanghai restaurant for the first time, in the run-up to the Chinese New Year, so I'm not sure how accurate an impression we got.
Although we did not have a reservation, we were quickly shown to a table on the 4th floor and served with Chinese tea. The tea was excellent, hot, clear and palatable (unlike some examples which taste like Shanghai shower water).
We ordered beers, which came straight away, but then we had to wait several minutes for someone to open the bottles and provide us with glasses. The menu is extensive, and contained many dishes which appealed to our western taste. We always tend to over-order just in case one or more of the dishes is disappointing (or inedible), but on this occasion all the dishes were good quality and flavour.
We could not find rice in the menu, and our waitress did not understand English, so we ordered the Rice Cakes as the closest equivalent. These resembled "fish fingers" and were very crunchy and difficult to eat, however, when soaked in the stock from our Mixed Hot Pot they were quite tasty. The best dish we ordered was the Fillet Beef with Wild Chillies. The "worst" dish was the Bean Curd stuffed with Vegetables, because we hadn't realised that this was a cold dish, however, Hot Pot to the rescue again and the dish was much improved. We also ordered the Green Vegetables with Mushrooms, which was a very tasty dish (although I'm not sure what the vegetable was, as it had been liquidised into a sauce). This dish was the slowest to arrive, so unfortunately we did not really do it the justice it deserved, as we were already full. The "City Weekend" price at the top of the page seems to be a low estimate compared to what we paid, (more like double) but as you can see we ordered several dishes and we also had beers and wine. I would definitely return to this restaurant, either as a couple or as a group of friends and family.
