Super sleek decor, impeccable service (occasionally accompanied by a performance, if you're lucky) and exquisite cuisine will make it hard to leave. Top honors go to the spicy spare ribs and tongue-numbing tofu. The dan dan mian is so tasty that, though bursting at the seams, you'll still need to make room.

While the decor especially the awesome entry was interesting, the food was a big disappointment as in tough beef, and this was in addition to an inattentive even rude staff. We'd say try somewhere ese, and one more thing, lots of items on the menu proved to be unavailble. This one was a real let down because it had come so highly recommended.

Anybody who has been to Chengdu knows that South Beauty is not authetic sichuan food. It is good food at a high price though. The make-at-your table tofu is excellent and definitely worth showing-off to your out-of-town friends and relatives. The food is not so consistent across all it's establishments.

I really want to like this place, but just can't. Sometimes, but far from always, the food is good, but often more showy that actually good. The big drawback though is the staff, inattentive, rude and generally not giving a damn about their job or the customers. I would not take visitors there, if you don't want to make a point about service in Shanghai.

I have to say that in general, I find the food here rather average, though it's incredibly popular with a lot of people. But then, I like my Sichuan very spicy and I find their dishes rather toned down for the Shanghai audiences.

That being said, on a recent visit, I was impressed by a rather exotic beef hot pot style dish with tender slices of beef, chillis, Sichuan peppercorns and a few veggies cooked in a pot of boiling oil heated by two hot stones. There was a similar dish made with fish which was also delicious (more peppercorns in that one). Maybe it was the combination of a lot of oil and the peppercorns that made these dishes tasty, but I'd say it was the first time I was somewhat impressed with the offerings.
