overpriced and overcooked la verbana has the lockdown on location and ambiance. one cannot think of a more romantic spot than along the haungpu river gazing across towards the bund, especially at night. it is a shame the food cannot live up to the atmosphere. the tapas are very small and frankly not that impressive, the spanish omelet and shrimp croquet were noteworthy only for their lack of discernable flavor. the seafood paella- la verbana's signature dish- was terribly overcooked rendering the delicate seafood dry and stringy and the rice brittle and crunchy. also service was at times spotty during a relatively quiet evening. perhaps la verbana is more suitable as a place to unwind with a bottle of wine on the patio than a place for a truly romantic meal.
