Refined Thai cuisine with a spicy bite served in the top floor of the gorgeous Ruijin Mansion. Buddha-lined walls, candlelit tables, and a heady mix of incense and aromatic Thai spices make this a complete sensory experience. Try the prawn cake or the delicate soft-shell crab.

Both the food and service are top class and whilst the flavours seemed authentic to me, I can only base my judgement on eating Thai food in the UK and Shanghai. The restaurant certainly seemed popular with other western diners, who occupied the majority of the other tables on the Saturday evening when we visited. The location is impressive, set in the grounds of the Ruijin Hotel, you must drive through the gardens to reach the entrance to the Face Bar (downstairs) and Lan Na Thai (upstairs). The old building has been tastefully decorated, with small tables and subtle lighting to create an intimate mood. The downside to this restaurant is the cost, the prices quoted at the top of this page are on the low side, unless you are not very hungry and do not order any wine. But if price is not you major concern and you are looking for somewhere with excellent food, service and atmosphere, then you should definitely try Lan Na Thai. For more information and a preview of the menu you can go to www.facebars.com

I have just taken a closer look at the website, www.facebars.com and navigated to the party menu page. This set menu offers better value for 4 guests and above, prices from 320 rmb net per person to 520 rmb net pp. The main menu incurred a 10% service charge, so I suspect this will also be the case for the set menu. Also the wine list is extensive and offers premium wines (at a premium price) alongside more affordable vintages which can be purchased by the bottle or by the glass.

no way is the mediocre food worth the prices, but it's an excellent setting for a first date.

overpriced Very expensive and not that authentic.
