Description

A small, simple and yet charming restaurant for Vietnamese food with a light touch. Some might find the flavours less strong than the usual Vietnamese fare. I enjoy this restaurant because the food is generally well prepared and fresh. The staff is well trained by manager Jenny, so the service is friendly and attentive.

Good variety on the menu and great value, including set lunch menu. The restaurant is busy most evenings, especially Fridays and weekends. Reservation is recommended. One of those places you want to bring friends but don't want too many people to know about!

I was back recently and found some menu changes. Some favourite dishes are more expensive but lack the same flavour. The beef noodle soup was less flavourful than I remembered it last time. Rather too busy and noisy for me, but will be back to try some of the other dishes.

On recent visits back to Da Hui Xiang (Aniseed) I found seasonal menu changes and new dishes to try.

Some old favourites were improved like the lemongrass deep-fried tofu. Onion soup wasn't a rich in flavour. Seafood curry noodle was rather tasty. Caramel kaya toast is a new dessert and definitely a new take on a SE Asian favourite. Not sure it works as a dessert, but would be good snack with coffee - try the nice strong latte.

Highly recommended by one of my friends, I visited this Vietnamese restaurant with my hubby last weekend after shopping at Xujiahui. The location is convenient, just several steps away from the Xujiahui Shopping centres.

Entering the restaurant, I was attracted by some details of Vietnamese taste. Haven't been to the Vietnam yet, but have seen some features of the country in my friends' home who is a travel lover. Those settings are very Vietnamese, must be originally brought back from Vietnam.

The small and cosy restaurant make you feel relaxed and I shall say, it's good for couples or close friends.

When the food was on table, they really look tasty. I like the spring roll and the soul soup Mandarin Fish, special fragrance with the Vietnam spices. Maybe that's why the restaurant name is called by the spice name Aniseed. I would also like to mention of their home-made desserts, tastes really delicious.

The service is really tiptop, to someone like me who worked in the 5-star hotels for years, it's more than an compliment.

A place worth being recommended to my friends and associates. Surely I will be back soon.

I went to Xujiahui for shopping with my friends last weekend. My friends brought me to the restaurant. It locates on West Guangyuan Road. We walked to there for about 10 minutes.

When I entered into the Aniseed, lots of Vietnamese settings caught my eyes. They are so beautiful and cute. Obviously, they must be brought from Vietnam by their boss.
