Local benbang cai with a Hangzhou flare is the star at this smart cozy restaurant. Flavors are naturally sweet and heavy yet well balanced, unlike most local equivalents, and the presentation, service and atmosphere are a cut above your average Shanghai cai dining hall.

Dongpo rou is one of the best in town.

Had a terrible meal last night at Le Patio. Service was clearly annoyed when one of our guests had questions about menu items - the wait staff in general seemed more concerned with breaking down the tables from the dinner rush (it was 8:30 pm when we went).
To make matters worse the restaurant is showing signs of wear and tear - stained couches, chipped tables, and I'll not even begin on the bathroom.
The dongpo rou was disappointing (which is one of the few reasons I go there) and we had to send back the pumpkin soup.
All in all it may have been an off night or more likely a sign of things to come from a restaurant that has become popular - now they can do away with all those things that won them favor in the first place. Either way we won't be going back to find out.

Le Patio serves Hangzhou-style cuisine in a bright, clean, and modern atmosphere. White place settings and rich mahogany tables add warmth to the cozy interior. It's a shame the menu hasn't received the same eye to detail. We began with a syrupy sweet pumpkin soup (¥6) which lacked its namesake's flavor. Shrimp steamed on hot river stones (¥48) were fresh yet indistinguishable from offerings found at other restaurants. Dongpo rou (¥38) was deliciously fatty, its flavor balanced by the slight saltiness of pickled vegetables, and our cabbage simmered in pork broth (¥28) was light and tender yet pleasingly crisp. An overpower ingly sweet manto and minced beef (¥32) followed; placing the mince inside hollowed-out manto was a novel touch. Shanghai fried rice (¥22) was a noteworthy addition to our meal. The menu is completely in Chinese with few pictures and the staff is accordingly helpful. An example of style over substance, Le Patio, while pleasant, is better recommended to those of us who live in the immediate vicinity. –Bryan Harsar
