This Turkish-themed bar and café has a full social calendar of movie nights and dance parties led by some of the underground scene’s favorite DJs. Patrons are encouraged to deejay on Open Turntables night and they have a Tuesday night Turkish happy hour bringing down the already moderately priced drinks.

Description

This is is Shanghai's new Turkish / Xinjiang-themed café / music bar with Chef Muhammed Ahmed from Hulja, Xinjinag Province offering some of his hometown favorites like Turkish-style sandwiches, coban salad (shepherd salad) and traditional desserts like siker pare (sugar coin), alongside drinks like Uyghur milk tea and fresh pomegranate juice.

Aside from great food and wireless internet, at night Anar offers up a packed social calendar, complete with Monday movie nights, Turkish Happy hour Tuesdays, and open Turntables Wednesdays. Thursday though Saturday, you can expect to hear some of Shanghai's finest disc jockeys playing all the platters that matter, ranging from funk, hip-hop, reggae, dancehall and world music to disco, house, minimal and electro (to name a few). If that's not enough for you, come by Sunday for a relaxing Pomegranate martini or an authentic Turkish coffee at Anar's mp3 lounge night.

Kind of a strange set up- there seemed to be one bar at the front that only had black beer or rum, then a fuller bar once you got towards the back room.

Blue and white tiled pillars in a central asian style, pomegranates in bowls here and there, and beds to lounge on. It's not your average kind of place.

Small dancefloor so the place was packed at the Boys vs Girls soft opening party which didn't really suit the theme of the place- who can be lounging around smoking shisha when you're being jostled by dancing lala girls?

It's not the mini-Shelter I was kind of expecting, but worth going back to.

Anar could potentially be a really cool place. I went to Boys vs. Girls and it was packed. I also heard there was a good crowd on opening night, but some friends and I walked over from Logo (too crowded, cops, blah) to see what was going on and it was dead on a Saturday night. So far, it's only the place to be if there's a party. Unless you wanted to smoke shisha and drink turkish coffee in peace in quiet on Saturday, then it's perfection!
