This bar fulfills all the Xinfu lu nightlife requirements (eclectic selection of live music and DJs, cheap drinks, young, hip and relaxed crowd) in a slightly less divey style than LOgO, its famous neighbor.

I really like the atmosphere in Anar -- chill cafe/bar type thing, with relatively cheap drinks - 50 rmb cocktails, 20-35 rmb beers, and wireless. The waiters wear nice ties and are very polite, and the crowd is young, hip, and alot of Jiaotong students... I'll go back for their sunday and wednesday night jam sessions with John.

same owner as the infamous Tonghui located on Huaihai Road, it was known for its daring combination of live music and cold beer. But nothing lasts forever, Tonghui was shut down eventually due to a lack of license to perform live. But now, Anar is bringing back live music night every Wednesday, drinks are reasonably priced and the enviroment is still kick back, smoky and friendly.

The last time i enjoyed that much was my last trip back home to Singapore at Zouk. The music was so good that you can go without cigarettes the whole night.

Minimal. describes the place and music. The best local Djs, the team from DKD spins there. It a place that didn't need a crowd or pretentious people. Casual, T-shirts and bums. The owners club with you. You will talk to Djs about their music. Ivan the manager gladly show you around and introduce you the place with no snobs. I don't think it ever need a cafe or restaurant maybe a wine bar will be great with just good drinks and music. This place should be RSVP. I'll be the next Saturday 16 March.

Anar Bar sat 4/26 - Don't miss the zombie party with a bunch of really really really hot DJ's cough,a deathly delicious crowd, electropunk, electrorock, dirty, grimey zombie love. mmm brains.

Anar could potentially be a really cool place. I went to Boys vs. Girls and it was packed. I also heard there was a good crowd on opening night, but some friends and I walked over from Logo (too crowded, cops, blah) to see what was going on and it was dead on a Saturday night. So far, it's only the place to be if there's a party. Unless you wanted to smoke shisha and drink turkish coffee in peace in quiet on Saturday, then it's perfection!

Kind of a strange set up- there seemed to be one bar at the front that only had black beer or rum, then a fuller bar once you got towards the back room.

Blue and white tiled pillars in a central asian style, pomegranates in bowls here and there, and beds to lounge on. It's not your average kind of place.

Small dancefloor so the place was packed at the Boys vs Girls soft opening party which didn't really suit the theme of the place- who can be lounging around smoking shisha when you're being jostled by dancing lala girls?

It's not the mini-Shelter I was kind of expecting, but worth going back to.
