This spacious addition to Bund 18 is a quirky mix of classical and modern décor. Tapas such as foie gras dumplings, well-mixed specialty cocktails and first growth Bordeaux are served by friendly and attentive staff, but it's the late-night weekend parties that this lounge is becoming known for.

I attended their Saturday night event this first week of March, for the first time. I didn't know what to expect, but was surprised to find it excruciatingly packed, and the music turned up as loud as it could get.
That's not to say that it was bad. Just different than what I had expected (I had visited Lounge 18 during afternoon tea hours several days earlier, and it was a quiet, chilled, relaxing environment).
Because of the immense number of people, the stuffy congested heat of the place let no one escape without sweating it out. Girls were ordering ice cubes to cool down. Which may have been the plan all along...
Service that night was expectantly slow. I had to chase down a bartender and ask 4 times before someone came over to open a bottle of wine we'd ordered.
And the crowd that night was decidedly leaning towards the European community, which is great for those that enjoy that type of environment.
It really is night & day between Lounge 18's night and day! But the design of the space, with its adjoined multi-functional gallery space make it a unique place to host parties or bring friends from out of town. It certainly has momentum going for it; I expect the place will get better over time as it becomes more seasoned.

Bund 18's newest addition has a strangely dissonant decor. A classic colonial looking space is filled with a quirky mix of furniture, checkered marble floors, and digitized paintings. The service is friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, what they are serving could use some work. The wine list has only 2 price points: astronomic or dirt cheap--nothing in between. I was also surprised to see only one single malt scotch. I would expect more from a lounge on the Bund. In all fairness, however, this place could still be building it's inventory. I would wait a few months and let Lounge 18 get through it's birth pangs before I pay it another visit.

Hey everyone,
Lounge18 will be closed for the whole of August 09 for a refit. Check back for news of a re-opening party.
