This venue is part of the "new" Taikang Lu: a fresh take on the classical Chinese teahouse where guests sip moderately priced cocktails or local beers while enjoying a game of Monopoly or a PS2 tournament. This fun and secluded bar is run by staff that could be family friends.

This place is tiny (could probably hold 20 ppl, max, and that would be uncomfortable) but really homey. It feels almost like one of those beach-houses that some tourist converts into a restaurant just so they can avoid city life a little while longer. You almost expect your cousin to walk through the door at any second.

A Fifteen Bar is part of the Taikang Lu artsy renaissance. A cozy, well-stocked bar greeted us as we strolled in and a narrow winding staircase took us to the upstairs lounge which consists of some tables and chairs along with comfy floor cushions for video game fans. The venue is reminiscent of a classical Chinese teahouse updated for a new class of young Chinese. The drink menu is creative and prices range from ¥35 for a domestic beer to ¥55 for a martini. The bar doesn't serve food, but our drinks came with a bowl of complimentary peanuts. The music matched the atmospheres: laid back electronica at a level that was enjoyable and non-invasive. The friendly service gave a comforting vibe to the bar and made us feel at home. Perfect For: enjoying intimate cocktails while avoiding art-house snobbery. –Sam Oddy
