Walking down serene Wuding Xi Lu we found Mediterraneo tucked away, glowing coolly like a mandarin-tinted diamond in the silent rough. Indeed "cool" is their new lounge's middle name. Over a year after Mediterraneo's debut, MEDlounge has been introduced with the same chic, luxuriously and comfortable flair. Formerly the home of Soong Mei-Ling, this spacious second floor now features an open public room and separate lounge rooms for more intimate group outings. We settled in with the varied crowd, enjoying the relaxing ambiance set via smooth grooves, muted tones, plush European furniture and well-diffused lighting. We grabbed cocktails (YY50-60) at the fully stocked or and strolled onto the spacious terrace, furnished with comfy rattan and teak furniture, overlooking an expansive garden. The chatty, unpretentious staff belies the upscale environment and a weekday happy hour (50 percent off house drinks and cocktails, 4-8pm) encourages those with thinner wallets to also enjoy the upscale treatment. MEDlounge is a cooling oasis in a desert of showy, generally conceited high-end nightlife. Perfect for: a luxurious escape from racket of the city.
