As one of the most renowned Chinese restaurants in Shanghai, the constant quality of the delectable dishes, including the warm crab, roasted pig feet and garden salads draw loyal patrons to return. Reservations are recommended at any of the numerous elegantly-decorated and oft crowded branches throughout the city.
The review is for the branch on the 9th floor of the Superbrand Mall. So I guess they moved from the 5th floor. We went with large group from work and had a wonderful view of the Bund. The food was tasty but we had a had time ordering enough to meet the minimum charge for the room. (The minimum is very high!) AND, one of our group came down with food poisoning after dinner. It's appalling for such an expensive place to not handle food properly.
Had a lunch gathering there with a group of fellow students. The place is on the last floor, took quite some time to find the restuarant.
We entered the place, rather decent looking. Gives an overall 'hotel' feel. The some of the staffs were easy to approach but some were not. Most of them cant understand english. Asked them to refill our drinks a few times, but they always have to go back and get help from the senior staffs. I later discovered that they were looking for the tea pot. Its abit messy. For the price that we were paying, we expected slightly better service. None of the waiter/waitress were paying attention to us.
The food was quite food. Wouldn't say exceptionally good, but still good. Typical of restuarants near the river, they have excellent views of the bund. Overall 3 stars.
If this is the Japanese/Korean style BBQ beef branch of Xiao Nan Guo, gotta say the food is pretty tasty, albeit a tad expensive. Great expansive views of the Bund.
It's definitely no Ben Jia, but then again it doesn't take an hour to get to from downtown.
