A MVP Interview with Bill Gaylord: "CW: When did you become an avid biker? BG: I started cycling in the late evenings, after my U.S. conference calls, when I arrived here in Feb. 2003. I would cycle for hours in Pudong down the main avenues, side streets and villages to unwind. By 2004 I was hooked and purchased three more bikes. I'm not a bike collector though–two of them we, um, "borrowed."
CW: Do you take on Shanghai traffic or aim for areas outside of downtown? BG: All city areas can be fun and challenging and the level of both depends on who you're with
CW: OK, so where's your favorite place to go with a bike group? BG: The little suburbs and villages like Chingpu. These canal villages are tied together with ribbons of concrete and are just beautiful. I also like to take people biking out to the sea. No white sandy beaches, but the views are great.
CW: Any tips for the balance-deficient masses? BG: For the unstable folks, SISU has smaller e-bikes with wider wheels and a quiet park to cycle in which can be a big help. Why should people consider doing regular biking with the SISU group? The idea behind SISU, and biking in general, is to create a healthy lifestyle and help form a community of people. Biking promotes the freedom to transport oneself in China so you can experience the real and wonderful China—and have some great company while you do it." --Issue 2, MVP
