When Suzhou's gardens get too crowded, head to Mudu, halfway to Taihu Lake. Our favorite garden is Gusong with its veritable rock garden labyrinth and impressive embrioderies, but don't neglect Yanjia Garden, Mudu's largest. After old town, climb Ling'an Mountain to the temple on top for a fantastic bird's eye view.
