Michael wrote: Hello! My wife and I just arrived in Shanghai and are living at WuZhong Lu and HongXu Lu area. I saw your ad on shanghaiexpat.com and I wanted to contact you about hiring a full-time live-in ayi. My wife and I have found a couple Philippino ayi we could use, but I understand this may not be legal? Not sure why. Philippino ayi would be good for two reasons (1, they speak good English so easy to communicate, and 2, they are better with dogs). However, of course we can consider a Chinese ayi, as well. This may be better if cheaper and of course better if more legal. These are the things we would look for in an ayi in order of importance: 1. Must LOVE big dogs and want to care for our 42kg dog like a baby [#1 requirement and not negotiable. Maybe we need a younger girl for this? I think older Chinese ladies are too afraid] 2. Must be able to live in the house – this is required for when we travel which will be frequent – 1 or 2 times per month potentially. 3. Should have some English ability, but certainly not perfect English of course. However our Chinese is very poor now. 4. Daily tasks can include: a) Walking, feeding, and loving the dog if we are not home b) Cleaning the house c) Doing the laundry d) Ironing shirts e) Cooking occasionally 5. Should be honest, trustworthy, and reliable 6. Prefer friendly and polite, as well So, the question is – - Can you/your company help us to find an ayi? - If so, what are the prices for the ayi and for your services? - If not, can you recommend any other good ayi agencies to us? Thanks in advance for your help. Best regards,

LEALU replied: Dear Michael, Thanks for your concern about LEALU domestic service. We don't agree with your opinion of "Chinese ladies are too afraid".It's One-sidedness. In fact,90% of the Chinese Ayi/maid are over 30-40years old. They are more patient and stable than the young lady or girls. As agency, we will help you to choose the right Ayi if you need. According to your detail description of your requirement, we will recommend you such an Ayi who may meet your demanding. We will send you Ayi CV by the following email.

Yours sincerely:LENITA 2009/09/23

Michael replied: No need to argue with me about whether or not my opinion is right or wrong. It is my experience so far that 90% of Chinese people are afraid of my dog. That is a fact. My concern is only to find a good ayi who loves big dogs. If you can find a Chinese lady who can fit that profile, then I am happy to use your service. Please let me know if you find one. Make sure you let them know she is a 42-45kg Rottweiler. You can see detailed information and photos here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rottweiler They are very BIG, STRONG dogs and most people are scared of them. However, she is actually very sweet and we treat her like a baby. So, we need an ayi who will really love and care for her like a human baby. This is our biggest and most important requirement. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks Michael

LEALU replied: Dear Michael, Thanks for your quick reply. I do have an Ayi who love big dog very much.We need to give Ayi more information about the work in your place. 1.How many days a week do you need ayi to work,5 or 6days? 2.Do you have kids to look after ? 3.How big of your Apt or House? 4.What's your nationality?

Then I will offer you a quote about Ayi.Thanks.

Best Regards!

Michael replied:

  • Live-in ayi because we travel and dog needs care day and night when we are gone.
  • No human kids, but our dog is our kid.
  • 240 sq m apt
  • Me: USA. Wife: Japan

Simple English ,words by words ; Responsible and Reputable ayi ;She likes pets such as dog(huge) and cat.

Michael replied:

So, she has no experience with dogs? Also - what are the typical rates of your ayis? All my research shows that a Chinese speaking (only) live-in ayi should cost around 1000 RMB up to 1500 RMB depending on the quality and experience. For some English speaking and lots of experience with foreign families, the highest amount I have seen from anywhere is 2000 RMB. Please let me know what the average prices are for your ayis before we proceed with sending me any more resumes. Thanks so much! Best regards,

Michael

LEALU replied:

It's interesting to get such news from you.I think you can hire Ayi at this price if you are in other underdeveloped places of China. If you live in Shanghai,it's impossible.

I don't think you are a valued customer for us to serve you.

Michael replied:

Wow - I am surprised at how rude you are to your potential customers. That is a very big mistake for you. All I did was state the facts of my own research and ask you what your prices are. Then you tell me that I am not a valued customer? You have extremely poor customer service. Based on your poor attitude I will now definitely not use your service. Further, I will be sure to rate your service poorly and make sure all other foreigners know how rude you are to customers. Hopefully in the future you will realize when you treat people badly, you have bad business. Good bye.

LEALU replied:

Hi, Michael. I know you are angry with my attitude .But I'm also angry with your attitude-Chinese Ayi are cheap.I have been trying my best to look for right Ayi who like huge dog for you until now. When you told me about your reseach,I neally felt I can't breathe.I believe you are wasting my time and tricking me. You are the first customer who believe I am a bad and rude person.

I believe you are a Gentleman,PL calm down and accept my apologize for my rude attitude. Then let us forget this.

Michael replied:

Learn to treat customers with respect - then you will have more customers.

You have lost me now as your customer because of your bad attitude. I was polite and you were rude. You are now on my ignore list for email. You may no longer contact me. Hopefully you will learn there are consequences for your actions.

Good bye.
