Due to the content of this review we felt we needed to respond point by point.

"pungent smell coming from the kitchen"- if there was a pungent smell, it is probably from the time of construction as 58 Tai Cang Lu is a newly renovated building.

"toilets however they were all being repaired"- we do apologize for the faulty door. we are always in the process of improving our faults.

"chinese and foreign person harrasing the staff"- what one person may see as harassment, another defines it as training. Proof - 80% of our staff our still here, with a smile.

"witnessing a rat coming from the toilet"- unless rats scubadive there is absolutely no entry whatsoever in the toilet area. Are you sure you were in Enoteca?

"good staff had quit or were quitting"- again 80% of our staff is still here, the others were dismissed. No one left on their own.

To all readers : we decided to take this comment a little light heartedly since we are pretty sure of who this came from, non the less we are always looking to improve to make Enoteca more enjoyable each time.

When i first went to the 2nd enoteca in xintiandi. I thought it was excellent! The Australian Manager and his staff were very friendly and nice and the drinks were great value. However, on my second visit i discovered a hidden side to this bar. First i smelt a pungent smell coming from the kitchen....Im not sure what was happening in their but it smelt like someone had tipped a whole load of rubbish in it. Then i tried to use the toilets however they were all being repaired??? 3 at one time? Then i witnessed a chinese and foreign person harrasing the staff. After questioning this i found out they were the owners! And i have to say having drunk owners making staff cry really does concern me and made me think if they are in charge no wonder the toilets dont work and the kitchen smells. I did however brave the place once more only because some friends were meeting there. However, after hearing all the good staff had quit or were quitting and witnessing a rat coming from the toilet area I have decided never to go back. Moral of the story: Cheap wine doesnt mean Great Venue! sorry.
