M on the Bund is a very nice restaurant to stay for a sunday dinner. The food was delicious, especially the meat tasted great. The food quality and the service were good. I think it is recommendable place to go for a special dinner or occasion because the prices are high.

Good view but Midgy was expecting more impressive food and better service. Midgy expectations may have been too high. M on the Bund prices are high so should be better. Midgy likes the dessert cheese plate. Midgy has witnessed service problems at many restaurants in China including at M on the Bund.

Midgy recommends Glamour Bar downstairs.

This is an ideal place to take out-of-town guests or people you want to impress and can afford to splurge on. The view is fantastic, especially if you can get a table outside on the patio. The food is consistently outstanding, classical Western fare, not overly creative (which can be scary in some places), but very dependable for good quality. The wine list is also excellent, but of course pricey. Definitely a place to come back to again and again for special occasions or with special people. =)

Visited this restaurant on SAturday night, What a disaster. The staff are clueless to the guests needs, and the obverall attitude of the people are that they are doing a favor by waiting on you. A simple drink order needed a 5 minute explanation, and it still came out wrong. When the prices are at such a high price the Skill of the staff should also reflect the investment. The time that the beautiful people are over, hence loose the attitude. We didnt even stay for dinner when the first impression was not worth it.

Definitely the most expensive dinner I had in Shanghai.
And although the food was good, it was not the best I had in Shanghai.
If you are going for the view or drinks, to see and to be seen, it way be woth it! However, I would stick to more cosy and less pretentious places like Chicha or El Willy's...

Another perfect night at M’s. To cool for the terrace unfortunately as this really is the best view of the Bund, while still feeling the Bund atmosphere.
Staff were warm, smiling, reservation confirmed and table waiting. A suggested aperitif on the terrace was a great idea to start the evening. Dinner menu had some new dishes, the Fish Soup was creamier than expected but hot and tasty, Fois Gras terrene very good. Three of us had the Duck, sliced breast and a leg which might have been confit – great. Took the dessert medley, had a bit of everything and oh so good, this is meant for two people but was enough for four of us. We all agreed that M’s food is good quality that leaves you feeling satisfied.
Wine prices not bad for Shanghai, chose a good white burgundy for RMB 358 and Chilean Red for about RMB 450. Iced water poured without question, I like restaurants where you’re not gouged by bottled water at silly prices.
Service throughout was attentive, gracious and welcoming.

I love the view, the whole setting and the service there very much. It's a great place to bring visitors to enjoy the river view of Shanghai. But i must say, there's room to improve in their kitchen. The dishes look quite nice, but the taste.... hmm..., is not very inspiring.

But it's a nice place, i will continue to bring friends there... but usually i will take them there for a drink instead of meals.

Excellent! After 4 years we finally found our way there for the famous brunch and almost everything was perfect. I think they might have read the reviews below, because the hostesses were great and non-judgmental, the food was yummy and the view, well, the view's the view.

On the plus side: the food, the service and the ambiance are worth the price, 258 for 3 course, 218 for 2 course brunch. The mimosa was just the right mix, the coffee was ok (it wasn't' the best I ever had, but respectable). My goat cheese and beetroot tart was to die for, I woke up the next morning, determined I'm gonna learn how to make that at home, cause I want one every day!! My Pavlova for dessert was lickable, and I had to stop myself from actually licking the plate clean, since we were actually in quite civilized surroundings. Speaking of: if you can afford it, don't be afraid, it's not scary civilized, we were 4 people that don't venture out to posh places often and we didn't have any problem chatting away and feeling right at home. Well, after the initial 15 minutes of: "Do we have to talk really quietly now due to the classical music playing in the background?"

Negatives: our waitress was not very happy to be serving us - she did everything right, but no smile, just a somber working face. Maybe out partying the previous day or just slept really badly. My main: the smoked tuna steak. It wasn't bad, but it was a bit much of steak, a bit too little of garnishes. Just my preference, I guess.

But all in all, happy we finally did that, so now everybody can stop hassling us about it, and we might actually be back soon. I'm gonna have 3 courses of only goat cheese and beetroot tart!

Nothing has changed, staff still has no idea what they are doing. The hostess had a really bad and judgemental attitude, which however was eventually corrected by the manager[?] who noticed that i was about to leave before even setting foot there. Further, they managed to get the wrong order and then blamed us when we asked.

We were there regarding one of their "chamber music" events, which was neither i might add. They charged twice the price they had announced, and then argued that "it all goes to the musicians so you shouldn't be angry".

Nevertheless, the view is great, clientele mostly civilized and the food is usually worth waiting for. This was our third time there, and i guess we will not be going back.

First of all. I went there for view, not for the food over there. They have two dining rooms. the one I was in were pretty nice and quiet, But i hope if they have French window, that would be even nicer... I got Tbone for main course and ordered one bottle of pinot noir wine, chilled. Very delightful. 1. Prawn and Crab Bisque--not thick at all.2. Seared scallop with cauliflower puree--Good.3. a hunk of Char-grilled Tbone steak--medium. OK,4. Dessert: A: Poppyseed darlettes with turkish icecream--didn't taste, doesn't look that good. B: Parlova--good, but a bit sweet but amiable. C: La Pana cotta-very good love that, but the brandy in the glass with the desser is way too strong.

As usual, all restuarants near the bund has a great view. The food is not bad, service is okay.

Had a suckling pig and a steak. Paid around 300RMB, along with other things. The food is not bad but maybe for the amazing view, it's abit overpriced. The service was okay but only if they could speak better english. They kept coming to me and confirming my orders. Could be irritating if you're in a middle of a conversation. And its on the bund, expect more english speaking community.

Overall, 3 stars.

My experience last night at M on the Bund: RIDICULOUS. Had an 8 pm Sunday night reservation for 3 people for the patio which I made via email. We arrived and were seated. The waitress gave us the menu and we said we were there for drinks, dessert, and later coffee. Her mouth dropped open and she said "that's it???" She immediately left to get someone else, who came to tell us we could not have those things on the patio before 10 pm. I explained we had an 8pm reservation for a patio table..she said we would have to move inside. My husband explained that we live in Shanghai and we have a guest here tonight, could they make an exception (they were not busy at all). The response was no and if she were to let us sit there, and if someone else came in for dinner, she would have to make us move inside. This was absurd, especially because there were empty tables all around on the patio, even one whole section had no one in it (the inside was basically empty, only maybe 5 tables were being used). She stood there as we got up to leave and did not say anything else to us. We proceeded across the street to Jean Georges where we had excellent port, desserts, and coffees.

The view is obviously great - as long as there's no poo-filled barge on the river. But really the food is just "meh" and the service is unremarkable. I have met customers and colleagues here so many time and I just don't get why everyone raves about it...

It is neither overrated nor overpriced! It is a typical fusion-mediterranean dining experience with very attentive staff, very high quality of the products used by a very talented chef, a good choice of wines also by the glass and after all - compared to the view the prices seem reasonable to me! Maybe you all have forgotten the prices of fine dining in other countries? At "M" the portions are completely normal sized and three courses leave you completely satisfied in quality and quantity - we couldn't say that about all the Bund-neighbors! Connaisseurs will never stop going to M, that's the explanation of its success. Simple as that!

One of the stars I have given is for the amazing view, the other one is for the decent service, for the rest Zero! I was very, very dissapointed in the food. Unimaginative, oversalted, the dishes were oddly put together, items that do not neccesarily complement each other, my salmon was tasteless...all in all a bad experience food wise and a very hefty bill at the end. !hat a shame for such a beautiful place...there are better restaurants on the Bund!

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with the last 3 posts above (one man's meat is another man's poison, some wise old sage once said).

I love this place! Yes, it isn't the cheapest place to have brunch (RMB218 for 2-course, for example) or afternoon tea but for the to-die-for view? I think it's well worth it. In fact, it's probably the only restaurant on the Bund that's got the most unobstructed 360 panoramic view (ok ok if you'd just ignore the bulldozers for a bit....).

Dining is an experience that requires a host of elements to make it truly amazing - location, views, service, food quality, drinks selection, the company, cutlery and obviously price. And in my humble opinion, M on the Bund offers me an almost perfect juxtaposition of the above.

I agree with the last two submissions...not very good quality for the expensive pricing. Have to heavily disagree with City Weekend on this is a "must eat" restaurant. There are many other restaurants with better quality food at prices that match...These seem to be another restaurant on the Bund that try to use local meats and seafood and charge imported prices--I suggest you pick somewhere else--And God forbid its an even bigger loser with New Heights! Don't try either of these rip-off joints...

There's comfort food, and then there's comfort _dessert_--this is it for me, my all-time favorite dessert in the city. And since it's piled high with fresh fruit, it's good for you. Really. So for that, go ahead and order two...and also because I won't be sharing mine.

As the weather's warmed up, we've found ourselves gravitating more and more toward outdoor spaces. Recently soaking up the sunshine on the patio at M on the Bund, we were compelled to order the famous M pavlova (RMB108). Now, for those who have yet to indulge in this, we can only say, do. Their version of this traditional Australian dessert is the best in the city. Kiwi, strawberries, mango and dragonfruit heaped on top of a delicious meringue that has the perfect balance of sugary crispness on the outside and a marshmalloy softness on the inside. We're always tempted to order two, consider yourself warned.

**HighBrow with nice views** As the first restaurant on the Bund, I had to give this oldie a try. I quite enjoyed the wonderful service and food. The restaurant offers beautiful views of the Bund. While much cheaper at lunch, I did find the selections a bit heavy and better for a dinner time meal.
