Even with the number of new restaurant openings in Suzhou in recent months, including Morton’s Grille and Rong Vietnamese, it’s always nice to pay a visit to an old favourite, especially one that’s consistently good quality and frequently updating their menu.
In celebration of 15 years of operation in China, Element Fresh has introduced a number of new promotions, as well as new dishes to its menu.
Element Fresh members are used to Salad Mondays – buy one get one free salads – but now the chain has introduced Steak Wednesdays. Two hundred and fifty grams of Australian ribeye, a choice of sides and a glass of house red or white wine for 198 RMB.
We went for a medium steak with garlic butter, served with lemongrass rice, a side of vegetables, and a glass of Shiraz. The steak was nicely cooked and tender, although the cut was quite fatty, while the lemongrass rice was pleasant enough without being outstanding. Given other choices of main meals on the regular menu, which offer the chance to enjoy a discounted glass of wine, I do question whether this really is an offer worth taking up.
From the daily menu, we went with the new Greek cobb salad with tender and juicy chunks of grilled lamb, deliciously salty feta cheese and roasted pistachios providing a crunchy contrast. It was a decent-sized, satisfying main meal. For dessert we sampled the new homemade rice pudding, which with its velvety creamed rice, mixed with salted caramel sauce, is decadent and delightful. We washed the meal down with the berries and herb sparkling tea, off the new Vital Tea Creations menu. Sparkling water is served with huge lumps of multi-coloured flavoured ice, which look very pretty. Be patient when it’s first served though and allow the flavoured cubes to melt a little to get the full hit of strawberry, blueberry and passion-fruit. It’s a really refreshing drink and happily one that’s flavour gets more intense as its melts rather than becoming watered down.
Element Fresh have also added daily afternoon tea options with little cakes, sandwiches and salads (available 2-5pm, 99 RMB) and a Friday buffet with free-flow house wine (evenings between 6.30 and 7.30pm 99 RMB). And seeing as it’s the summer holidays and the kids deserve a treat, check out the brand-new kids’ menu that features a range of smaller-sized meals for the mini-foodie in your life!
